Building Façade Grant

In May of 2025, the City of Belfast was awarded a Community Development Block Grant Community Enterprise Grant (CDBG CE) in the amount of $100,000. The City will utilize CDBG CE funding to develop and implement a façade improvement program that will provide subgrants to be used to improve façades of commercial spaces currently occupied by Belfast businesses (either for-profit or non-profit businesses), and/or to improve façades of commercial spaces that are presently unoccupied but possess the potential to attract new businesses once improved. The City intends to use $90,000 to provide business façade grants to at least 4 recipients (applying the $25,000 maximum grant amount for an individual recipient). Each recipient is required to provide 28% in matching funds. It is anticipated that work to improve the façades will begin in early 2026 and be completed by summer 2027. 

Any project making application must address the issues/items identified in a spot blight determination process. A designation of spot blight is determined solely by the City of Belfast Code Enforcement Officer and must be included in the application.
