The City of Belfast is seeking support and input for a $500,000 Downtown Revitalization grant, which would be used to pay for streetscape and infrastructure improvements (sidewalks, lighting, stormwater, signage, and landscaping) in an area of downtown Belfast (generally bordered by Cross, Federal, Front, and Miller Streets) that was previously designated as Slum and Blight.
A public hearing to discuss this grant application will be held on March 6th, 2012, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers, immediately prior to the Belfast City Council’s regular meeting. Members of the public are encouraged to attend this hearing to offer support and input, which will strengthen the City’s application to this competitive grant program. We are particularly seeking support and input from downtown business operators and property owners, and downtown residents that may benefit from the proposed project.
The City also encourages members of the public to submit letters of support or written comments prior to March 6th that will be included in the public hearing minutes as part of the application. Letters and comments can be sent to Thomas Kittredge, Economic Development Director, City of Belfast, 131 Church Street, Belfast, ME 04915, or via e-mail to economicdevelopment@cityofbelfast.org.
Questions about this project and grant application can be directed to Thomas Kittredge at (207) 338-3370 ext. 8 or economicdevelopment@cityofbelfast.org.
