The final Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) and Conceptual Remedial Action Plan (RAP) was released.  The 30-day public comment period for the draft ABCA-RAP review ended on March 16, 2015; since there were no comments regarding the draft ABCA-RAP, the document was finalized.

2/19/2015:

The City of Belfast is currently seeking appropriate individuals or entities who are interested in relocating a portion or the entirety of the Maskers' Building, or who are interested in preserving building components from the same.  The City has prepared a technical memo which provides cost estimates for the relocation of the building (partial and complete), and guidelines for both the building relocation process and the building component preservation process.  (All of these documents mentioned can be downloaded below under 'Related Documents'.)  Individuals or entities with any level of interest are encouraged to contact Thomas Kittredge, Economic Development Director, City of Belfast (contact information below), as soon as possible (but certainly by March 16, 2015).


2/12/2015:

The City of Belfast will hold a public meeting on the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Brownfields-funded Cleanup Project at the Masker’s Theater and Thompson’s Wharf site located at 45 Front Street.  The City has been awarded a cleanup grant in the amount of $200,000 from the US EPA Brownfields Program.  These funds will be used to remediate environmental contamination at the site.  A draft Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) and Conceptual Remedial Action Plan (RAP) have been prepared for this project, which has been approved by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MEDEP) and US EPA.  (These documents, and others, are available for download below, under 'Related Documents.')  The City is holding a public meeting and receiving public comments on these draft documents.  During this meeting we will discuss the proposed cleanup strategies, as well as applicability of Section 106 of the National Historical Preservation Act with respect to the proposed cleanup activities.   

The public meeting will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2015 in the Council Chambers at Belfast City Hall, located at 131 Church Street, Belfast, Maine 04915.  Public comments will be accepted during a 30-day public comment period, which will end on Monday, March 16, 2015, 30 days after publication of this public notice.  The information repository on this project, including environmental assessments and other environmental information is located at the City of Belfast’s Economic Development Director’s office, Belfast City Hall, 131 Church Street, Belfast, Maine 04915, and will be available for viewing during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm).  During the 30-day public comment period, please send comments to: Thomas Kittredge, Economic Development Director at the address above or via email at .
