Wales Park is within easy walking distance of downtown, and it is a welcoming green space for visitors entering Belfast from the west. This park was donated to the City by Mrs. Helen Wales Skinner in 1941 approximately.  This property had a home on it at one time, but the home was lost in a fire in 1867.  Mrs. Skinner donated the land under the condition that it remain a public park.

Park facilities include playground equipment, grill, picnic table, and a picnic shelter. The park is now home to the Wales Park Community Garden, an effort by a Volunteer Committee to provide gardening opportunities for rentable garden plots through a lottery system. The Wales Park Community Garden Committee have worked extremely hard over the past few years to make the community garden what it is today.

The mission of the Community Garden is to strengthen food security and support a healthy lifestyle through the garden plots for Belfast residents and organizations.  Every winter, the applications open for garden plots, and then applicants are awarded a plot through a lottery drawing.
