In 1996, MBNA provided funding to the City of Belfast for the purchase of a former poultry processing plant overlooking Belfast Harbor. They cleared the land of abandoned factory buildings, and the area was designated as a park in 1999. Largely open with fabulous views of Penobscot Bay, the Belfast Common has lovely trees and gardens as well as a small amphitheater, the Phineas P. Quimby Labyrinth, many, many benches, and picnic tables.

Used for seasonal activities like flying kites, performances, picnics, reading, and lazing in the sun in the summer, this is one of Belfast’s prized areas, beautiful for boaters to view from the water or from across the harbor. This park is one of the sites of the annual Maine Celtic Celebration.
