Blasting at Belfast Municipal Airport Beginning on Thursday, December 13th, 2018

Blasting will be occurring at the Belfast Municipal Airport as part of its planned parallel taxiway extension/bypass taxiway construction project.  Lane Construction is the prime contractor for the project, and Maine Drilling & Blasting is the blasting subcontractor.

Blasting will commence on Thursday, December 13th, 2018, and occur each day, Monday through Saturday, until early February 2019.  Blasting will only occur between the times of 12:00pm and 2:00pm; this does not mean that blasting will occur continuously throughout this 2-hour window, blasting will only be occurring once per day, sometime within this 2-hour window.  The 2-hour window will be the same every day (12:00pm to 2:00pm), to better allow people to plan for or around it.

The sequence for pre- and post-blast whistles will be the following:

3 whistles will occur at 5 minutes prior to the blast.

2 whistles will occur at 1 minute prior to the blast.

The blast will occur.

1 whistle will occur after that blast, after the situation has been determined to be 'all clear', usually about 1 minute after the blast.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Thomas Kittredge, Airport Manager for Belfast Municipal Airport, at airport@cityofbelfast.org or (207) 338-3370, extension 600.

If you wish to be placed on an e-mail distribution list that will receive periodic construction schedule updates for the project, please send an e-mail to airport@cityofbelfast.org indicating your interest in being added to that distribution list.
