We encourage taxpayers to take full advantage of the various
programs available to ease the impact of the property tax. Some of the
most common are exemptions for Homestead, Veterans and their widows,
and the Blind, while others include Tree Growth; Farmland and Open
Space classification. Applications for all of the foregoing exemptions
must be made on or before April 1 of the year in which they are
sought. The BETR (Business Equipment Tax Refund) program is available
to those commercial and industrial properties that meet certain
established criteria. Information, both general and specific, on these
and other property-tax-related topics is available through this
office.
