Tax Billing & Payments 
The City’s fiscal year
is July 1 – June 30th.
Taxes are assessed to owner of record as of April 1st.
Taxes are normally billed in September.
Taxes are normally due mid-October.
If you mail your payment & would like a receipt,
enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope
& we will return a receipt to you.
The lien process will begin 8 – 9 months after billing.

Sewer is billed each
January & July
For the previous 6 month period.
Billing is based on your water consumption.
Current Rates are:
0 – 2000 cu. ft $95.00
each 100 cu. ft. over 2000 $4.50
Motor Vehicle Registrations

All registrations
require proof of
insurance & mileage.
Renewals require the expiring registration.
New registrations require dealer paperwork
(blue title application, green sales tax form
& window sticker)
or if a private sale
Title if 1991 or newer & bill of sale
If transferring plates, need registration for those plates.

Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Registrations
ATVs & Snowmobiles
expire in June each year.
Boats expire in December each year.
Renewals require current registration.
New registrations require a bill of sale
Boats & Snowmobiles require previous ME #’s

What if I can’t find my proof of insurance?
You may have your
insurance agent fax an ID card
Directly to the Tax Office at 207-338-6222.
Can someone else register for me?
If a renewal, yes.
If a new registration, you must sign the forms.
What if I don’t pay my taxes on time?
Taxes are usually
billed in September and
are due mid-October.
Interest begins the day after the due date.
8–10 months after billing the lien process begins.
A 30-day demand letter is sent to notify assessed owner.
If not paid in full by the end of the 30-day period,
a lien is placed on the property & recorded
at the Waldo County Registry of Deeds.
The lien matures at 18
months and an automatic
foreclosure will take place if the account remains unpaid
updated on 9/06/07 |
