DONATIONS
Policy Statement
Overview:
While recognizing the purpose and place of memorials in Belfast, it
is important to preserve the aesthetics, heritage, as well as
maintenance efforts of the City. It is with this in mind that the
following guidelines for the acceptance of donations to the parks
and its facilities is being proposed.
Acceptance:
The city reserves the right to accept or deny any/all donations.
Procedures:
All requests for donations must to be submitted, in writing, to the
Director, Parks & Recreation. The written request will be
forwarded to the Parks Commission, or designated official,
for their recommendation to the City Council.
Guidelines:
All determinations will be based upon, but not limited to the
following guidelines:
1. Flowers, shrubs, bushes
a. Donated plants become the exclusive property and maintenance
responsibility of the City.
b. Only those plantings that require a maintenance effort
consistent with other plantings will be considered.
c. Site preparation, installation and site restoration costs
will be the responsibility of the donor. Specifications for
installation to be provided upon approval.
d. Only perennial flowering plants will be permitted and
incorporated in existing beds.
e. The placement of plants will be based on the variety,
color, mature height, size etc. Compatibility with
surrounding areas will be a strong consideration for approval
or denial of planted materials and their location.
2. Trees
a. Donated trees, become the exclusive property and maintenance
responsibility of the City.
b. Site preparation, installation, and site restoration costs
will be the responsibility of the donor.
c. Tree placement/location will be based upon variety of tree
selected, mature height, size etc. Suggestions may be picked up at
the Parks & Recreation office. Compatibility with surrounding
areas will be a strong consideration for approval or
denial of trees and their location.
3. Benches / Tables
a. Donated benches become the exclusive property and maintenance
responsibility of the City.
b. Site preparation, installation, and site restoration costs
will be the responsibility of the donor. The City will perform the
installation and bill the donor.
c. Benches must be similar to others in the area.
d. The Director of Parks & Recreation has a listing of
acceptable structures as well as possible site locations.
4. Stones/Monuments/Other objects
a. Donated stones/monuments/other objects become the exclusive
property and maintenance responsibility of the City.
b. Site preparation, installation, and site restoration costs
will be the responsibility of the donor.
c. A picture of the donated item with dimensions must be
provided.
d. Stone/monument placement will be based on size, height,
style, etc.
