NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS 

The Belfast City Council shall conduct public hearings on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Troy Howard Middle School, which is located on Lincolnville Avenue, regarding a proposal to eliminate the Special Commercial Development District on Searsport Avenue that was established by a public vote on the ‘Shopping Opportunities’ initiative in November 2004.  The proposal to eliminate this zoning district involves amendments to two City documents, including:

·        City Code of Ordinances, Chapter 102, Zoning, Article IV, Description of Districts, Section 102-281, Special Commercial Development District within the Searsport Avenue Commercial District, and Article V, District Regulations, Division 29, Special Commercial Development District. 

·        City Comprehensive Plan, Chapter 12, Goals, Policies, and Implementation Strategies.

A map is provided that identifies the location of the Special Commercial Development District.  This District includes 4 properties that total about 85 acres, including the Tire Warehouse and PC Medix properties.  Boundaries of zoning district are shown in red. 

The public is encouraged to attend the public hearings and to express their comments to the Council.  Comment also may be submitted in writing or by email, and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on March 25th.  Written comment to: Roberta Fogg, City Clerk, City of Belfast, 131 Church Street, Belfast, ME, 04915.  Email comment to: cityclerk@cityofbelfast.org.
