What if I don't pay my taxes on time?
Taxes are usually billed in September and are due in mid-October. Interest begins the day after the due date. Eight to 10 months after billing, the lien process begins. A 30-day demand letter will be sent to notify the assessed owner. If taxes are not paid in full at the end of the 30-day period, a lien is placed on the property and recorded at the Waldo County Register of Deeds.
