CITY CLERK
2002 Annual Report
Roberta L. Fogg, City Clerk
Welcome to the 2002
annual report for the City Clerk's Office, it was a very interesting
year. The City Clerk's office moved from our old office on the
first floor - Church Street entrance to the basement - High Street
entrance. We now share our office with the Tax Collector and have a
new space with easy access for the public and more parking
available. Because of the renovations and new office space we now
have a new vault storage this will help to protect and keep the city
records safe.
This year the Clerk's office
embarked on what will be a long process of records preservation and
restoration. Seven of our historic vital records books were
restored and preserved; these records are still very much in daily
use. The restoration and preservation of our records will take many
years to complete, but these records are priceless and can't be
replaced. The records have also been put on microfiches; this will
protect the city incase of a fire or other mishap and at some time
in the future when the law allows the records will become available
to the public.
The Clerk’s office is still
processing requests for business permits and licenses such as liquor
license, special amusement, Victualer (food service) and other
business related items. We also sell hunting and fishing licenses
to both residents and non-residents. The City Clerk's office
processes all voter registrations requests, issues all birth, death
and marriage records, and we receive all payments on building and
code permits, ambulance and cemetery receivables, and most other
non-tax related items. The City Clerk's office processed
$4,631,357.45 in receipts this past year, for a variety of accounts
and city departments.
