NOTICE
OF PUBLIC HEARING
CITY OF BELFAST CITY COUNCIL
AMENDMENTS TO FUTURE LAND USE PLAN
BELFAST COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
The Belfast City Council, on Tuesday,
October 27, 2009, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Belfast
City Hall, which is located at 131 Church Street, shall conduct a public
hearing regarding two proposed amendments to the Future Land Use Plan that
the Council adopted at its meeting of October 13, 2009. The Future Land Use
Plan is part of the Belfast Comprehensive Plan. All persons in Belfast are
encouraged to attend the public hearing and to offer comment regarding
either or both amendments. In addition, comment may be submitted in writing
or via email. Written comment should be sent to: Roberta Fogg, City Clerk,
City of Belfast, 131 Church St, Belfast, Me, 04915. Email comment should be
sent to:
cityclerk@cityofbelfast.org.
The proposed amendments involve the following:
1) In the Swan Lake Avenue Mixed Use area, a
salvage yard or junkyard, such as the one now operated by Maurice Pooler, would
specifically be identified as a recommended permitted use.
2) In the Outside Rural area, for both Class 1
and Class 2 roads, the City specifically endorses the long-term continuing uses
of all commercial properties whose existing use would otherwise be rendered
nonconforming by the recommendations for these areas. The restaurant,
convenience store and laundromat on Rt 137 and Belfast 52 Variety are cited as
examples of such uses.
It is specifically noted that the October 27th
public hearing is limited to these proposed amendments. A copy of the proposed
amendments is available for inspection during normal business hours, 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m., Monday Friday, at the City Clerk and Dept of Planning and
Community Development offices in Belfast City Hall. A copy of the proposed
amendments also can be found on the City website, cityofbelfast.org. Refer to
the link at the bottom of the home page.

regarding the Plan can be directed to Wayne Marshall, Planning and Community
Development Director at 338-1417 x 25, or at planner@cityofbelfast.org.
